I was wondering, why do so many people think the US is in Iraq for oil? Is that even a valid argument?

It wasn't about getting free oil or getting cheap oil, it was about placing a military presence in the middle-east to ure that we would get our share of he oil, regardless of cost, until it was gone. And yes, it does fly in the face of those that fought and died in that litter box all so GWB could forge a place in history. It also insults those souls lost on 9/11 that now we are FINALLY getting to the business of making those that killed them pay, that the right wants us out of there and concede the area to AQ.
