No sound/sound blaster live!?

I've just bought a new tower/ refurbished one actually.. hooked everything up, everything was doing great until I noticed I wasn't getting any sound at all. Noticed this hardware called "Sound Blaster Live!" and I thought to myself, delete it.. see if that works. It didn't. Went into the control panel and it's telling me "no audio device". I know that I have a windows xp. Other than that.. I really couldn't tell you, the tower is black without any marks saying where it's from. Anyways.. I'm almost willing to try anything to be able to listen to my music!! The guy we got the tower from is on vacation and I don't want to bother him. Is there any possible way I can fix this without calling him out and having to pay? I know my speakers are plugged in right.. I can hear the static noise when I'm plugging them in. I'm not sure what other information I could give besides that. Thanks to who-ever answers at all!!
