Omg my cherry shrimp?

today i came back from school just in time to witness my neon tetra eat one of my cherry shrimp. OMG!!! 2 dollar food >:O so i was pissed off. that neon tetra was the one chasing the others around as well. should i even keep fish in my cherry shrimp tank? i was thinking that their small mouths wouldn't harm the shrimp but every time i put food up top the tetras ignore it... what should i do? return them? also do cherry shrimp eat crushed snails? :] i have a snail infestation, so lately when i see the baby snails i crush them and let the corpse drop down below... will the shrimp eat them otherwise ill have to find some other way to kill off the snails. do you know of any fish that will definently leave my shrimp alone?
